Empty vessels (canvases, frames, cans, etc) and their relationship to ‘light’ is a recurring theme in Van Simaey's artistic practice. Recycling all sorts of objects that pass trough his hands, asking questions about both the necessity and the instance of creation. Using only the modest of gestures he translates ordinary things into enigmas. With the exception of a few pieces all artworks are monochrome. Reflections, both of mirrors and mind, together with poetic language, are presented as consumer-fastfood-art but leave a long lasting introspection, as a fragrance, onto the viewers mind.
